Salt 2: Is the Angelina Jolie action sequel happening?
[ad_1]
Salt came out in 2010 at the perfect time, as it came shortly after real Russian sleeper agents were revealed in the “illegals program”. As for the fans, they liked it a lot because the movie did more justice to the concept of darkness attached to being a spy compared to other Hollywood movies.
The movie was near perfect with a great lead and a great story to back it up. And fans couldn’t get enough. Angelina Jolie did a great job portraying the character of a fallen agent, and she almost ended up creating her own franchise. But the reality was that the sequel to the movie never came out. So what happened after Salt’s big hit, and is there a sequel to come?
Here’s everything we know about it so far:
What is “salt”?
Salt’s story follows CIA agent named Evelyn Salt who must go on the run to prove her innocence after being accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. However, going on the run only made her more suspicious.
At first, the film was supposed to be a male story and was to feature Tom Cruise in the lead role of Edwin Salt. But about a year into production on the film, the script was changed to fit Angelina Jolie as the female lead. The hit action spy film finally came out in 2010.
The film received a positive response from viewers around the world, grossing a worldwide total of $293.5 million.
Salt 2 has been suggested since 2010
Shortly after its release, Philippe Noycé, the film’s director hinted at a possible sequel to the film and said: “I hope that in a few years we will have another one. Angelina is so awesome in this part. When the public sees the film, it will feel like it’s just the beginning..
He also hinted that there may be possible series of films exploring the character of Evelyn Salt further. But later, Noyce backtracked on his statement and said he was working on other projects and would not be involved in further development of a sequel.
Will there be a Salt 2?
Salt’s release was a huge success and opened the door to a bright future for the franchise with possible sequels in the future. However, no sequel has ever been officially confirmed. There was also news that the script for Salt 2 had been developed, however, Angelina rejected it.
And over time, news of a sequel kept fading and even the interest from the production company waned as the public also lost interest. The future of a sequel looks bleak and no official announcement regarding a sequel has been made as of yet.
