The Newcastle United Blog | The 24-year-old defender may still have a future at Newcastle

We have written off defender Jamaal Lewis this year, since he was dropped from Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad in January.
But head coach Eddie Howe mentioned the former Norwich City left-back today during his press conference for the match at Norwich tomorrow afternoon.
Eddie Howe on Jamal Lewis:
“He’s had a couple of surgeries and recently had another one. We’re hoping this one solved his long-standing groin problem. It was frustrating for him as he wasn’t feeling 100%. I would like see him again in pre-season and show us the player he can be.” pic.twitter.com/1pfFYHrnWV

Jamaal has therefore been hampered by a lingering groin injury and Howe hopes, with time off, getting the necessary medical attention and surgeries, he will be fully fit for pre-season training.
Then it’s up to the 26-time Northern Ireland International to impress Howe in pre-season.
Lewis is a bit like Miguel Almiron in that they are skillful players with good character, and Eddie Howe’s job is to get the best out of them – and he knows it.
Lewis and Almiron may well be with us for next season.
The defender has a five-year contract which he signed in September 2020 and has featured 32 times for Newcastle.
What do you think?
