Several Wigan staff and players have studied on UCLan courses over the past 14 years and have visited the University for pre-season fitness testing.

UCLan also provides video analysis support for Wigan and in return the Club provides internship opportunities for students.

Liam said: “Study and training involved a lot of juggling, but it also kept me busy and gave me another focus alongside rugby so that was great.

“I enjoyed applying what I learned to my training and understanding how to do the right things at the right time. The Club really cares about supporting the players after rugby and I know that I want to stay in this sport after my playing career. If I can work in the performance area, that would be ideal.

“I am proud to have my diploma and to have studied at UCLan. The relationship between Wigan and UCLan works both ways and it’s a fantastic partnership.

Dr Adrian Ibbetson, Director of Sport at UCLan, said: “We are delighted to see Liam graduating from UCLan. He is a very talented rugby player who now has another string to his bow which will be an asset for his career later on. The University is proud of its long-standing relationship with Wigan Warriors and it is fantastic to see this partnership continue to thrive.

UCLan is also a host training camp for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, which will take place this year after being rearranged due to the pandemic.
